Composer

Garth Stevenson studied composition and received major awards at the Berklee College of Music. He has composed over 300 works for, solo bass layered orchestra, string quartet, brass ensembles, chamber groups, small jazz ensembles, big bands, and film. He was the resident composer for the 2001 Canada Summer Games in London where he composed a piece for bass, Inuit throat singing, clarinet, piano, and percussion. He spent two months arranging string parts and co-producing Sonya Kitchell’s upcoming release Snowing. In September, 2009 Robert Nair (president of the ISB and faculty at Julliard and Penn State) and Heidi Von Bernewitz (London Philharmonic) premiered Migration for double bass and viola.

Currently, his main composing project is scoring Scott Cohen’s upcoming film that was shot in Antarctica in February 2010.

“Hourglass” off of Stevenson’s upcoming album “Flying” was featured in this new commercial by Barnes and Noble.
